FIREKIDS: Not Stacking Up

A Tale of Two Sides

So, I messed up last week and didn’t get by the bank to get my cash for the kiddos. So this week, they got to double up on their collections. On the right, is Zeke and on the left is Myka. The inside stacks are their future money (fully funded) and on the outside is the Tithe (fully funded) the middle stack is their current money. As you can see, Zeke’s stack is sooooooo much bigger than Myka’s. Myka has all of seven dollars that she gets to use for her current self, where as Zeke or Daddy Fat Stacks as some may say, is rolling in $76 dollars.

What is the difference you ask? Completed chores. Myka barely turned in a half filled in chore chart for 2 weeks straight and Zeke tries so hard to fill it all the way up. He nailed it the second week and came close the first. Had Myka not been able to fully fund her Future account and her Tithe account, she would have to contribute to one or the other next week to reimburse the shortfall that she created.

The frustrating thing is that she is doing the chores!!! It’s like, girl! Put your initials on the chart or you don’t get anything for it! I mean that is real life, if you don’t invoice for something guess what? You don’t get paid! That isn’t anybody’s fault but your own if you don’t invoice, and it is no one’s fault but hers for not completing the chart. Alexander, you might say, that is so harsh! Maybe so, but she has been warned mulitple times and been given grace to fill it in at the deadline before. The thing is, if I don’t teach her now, she will have to learn in the real world what it’s like, and isn’t that what this whole thing is about? Teaching our kids how money works at a small scale so they can be smart on the big scale?

I love Myka and want to see her succeed, sometimes the best love is tough love.
